Student Health

Visits to the Student Health Service (SHS) are free of charge for all SoM and Sackler students. The SHS is located in Suite C122 in Greenberg Hall, one floor below ground level. The nurses on duty, Mindi Feldman and Jaqueline Burke, are in the office from 8 am to 7pm on Monday and Tuesday, and 8am to 4pm on Wednesday through Friday. The office is closed on weekends and holidays (see the website for updated schedules). The SHS phone number is 212-263-5489, and the website is http://www.med.nyu.edu/studenthealth/. The website can also be accessed through a link in the resources portion of the Student Portal. The SHS should be the first place that students go to for their personal health needs.

All of your vaccinations and PPDs can be done by SHS, typically free of charge. This is particularly useful for students going abroad and in need of special vaccinations. The one exception is the Meningitis vaccination, which costs $75. Students must either get the Meningitis vaccination at the SHS or other hospital locations, or sign a waiver.

Each day, there is an hour-long doctor’s clinic that is staffed by an NYU physician, for which an appointment is not necessary. The GYN clinic is run by Dr.Yvette Martas by appointment only. Mental health care is provided by appointment by Dr. Chap Attwell, who can be reached in emergencies at 212-570-1933.

For medical emergencies that occur outside of SHS hours, students should go to the emergency room at Tisch hospital. If admitted, they should have the ER physician contact Dr. Colette Ho, medical director of the SHS.

What to do in case of a needlestick:

Wellness Exchange at NYU

The Wellness Exchange is a program devoted to providing all NYU students with assistance in dealing with problems such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, etc that may arise throughout their time in school. You can contact the Wellness Exchange at (212) 443-9999 or wellness.exchange@nyu.edu to speak with a counselor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The counselor will listen to your problem and either provide assistance directly or will refer for help within the NYU community.
