Welcome to New York University School of Medicine, located in—you guessed it—New York City. The medical school, university, and the City have much to offer, more than anyone can take advantage of within his or her career here. For some this is the first time living in a large city, and for others, it’s nothing new. For everyone, though, the life as a medical student is a new one.
We, the students of the NYUSoM Student Council, have put together this guide to serve as a roadmap through your four or more years through the institution based on lessons we’ve learned and personal experiences we’ve encountered. While both fact and opinion abound, please read this guide with a for-students–by-students attitude.
We have divided the guide into sections based on topics that are semi-chronological, based on topic. In most cases we present a general overview that is in no way supposed to be a replacement for specific information found elsewhere—course syllabus, financial aid website, textbooks, etc. For more information, see the contacts and references listed throughout this guide.
Finally, remember that this guide is an evolving piece of literature. Information may become outdated over time. For this, we ask for your help. If you do notice any discrepancies between what is written and what is, please contact us. If you would like to add or rewrite a section, we’d very much appreciate it.
We wish you happy reading.
