MD/PhD

Old Business:

Fishbowl: No new news on the Fishbowl.

Security in Coles: No new news on Security.

New Business:

Proposed Amendment to the Student Council By-Laws: Tom's Amendment on "Clarification of authorization to spend class money" was tabled until everybody had a chance to review it.

Telephone Service: Can we get a cheaper group rate. Juan Rodriguez will pursue what options are available.

Meeting with Dean Lesser: Eric Silver, Deb, and Ethan met with Dean Lesser about non-student access to Coles. He emphatically recommended that only students with student council approval could schedule space for anything other than studying.

Drums in the Lounge: Students will not be allowed to use their drum sets in the music area of Rubin Lobby because it may be to disruptive to the majority of the students. Juan Rodriguez will determine the feasibility of having housing sound proof the room. Students can use Schwartz E & F at night, and the rooms are usually empty.

New Club Proposal: The NYU Harm Reduction Alliance was approved as a Student Organization. They can now prepare a budget for student council approval.

The inviting of Administrators to Student Council Meetings: Student council would like to invite at least one administrator to meetings each month. Recommendations include: Dean Glickman every 3 months. Dean Lesser and Dean Cantonese together. Library staff. Dean Abramson. Dr. Felice Aull.

The Transition from Dean Lindner to Dean's Lesser and Dean Catanese: Transition from Dean Lindner to Dean Lesser brought up the issue about career counseling at NYU. Major points of discussion: It is unclear what will happen in the future with the current changes in Dean’s office:

  1. Will Dean Catanese take over counseling (excluding Dean Lesser??)
  2. What is the "Long term career planning" program currently in place?
  3. Can we add the Glaxo-Welcome program, now that it has been absorbed by the AAMC?
  4. Should the option to reapply for advisors be available to 2nd, 3rd and 4th years?
The above discussion warranted a motion to open a Career Guidance subcommittee. This committee will be composed of two 4th years, two 3rd years, one 2nd year, and one 1st year, and 1 MD/PhD (if they are interested)

This committee will look at what we like and don’t like about the current system as well as possible solutions. Then they will present this to Student Council before we approach the administration. This is another issue that should be addressed with the upcoming LCME.
