Class of 2000
The book sale is taking place this week.
Update on the North Shore Shuttle - Dr. Scotch is out and will be for the next month and
many of his responsibilities have been handed to Dean Lesser. Deb spoke with Stan Price
and he is working on negotiating to get the busses to not stop at Cornel.
The scrubs are being given out but only one set are being distributed instead of the
agreed upon 2 sets.
The 1st and 2nd years were able to get an extra week on their book sale but this will not
be possible in the future.
Deb and Ethan looked at Coles which is just about done and they said that the classrooms
looked very nice.
The party at B-bar was very successful with a turnout of over 100 people.
Class of 2001
The orientation for the class of 2002 is just about done with the Non-traditional dinner
tonight and the Orientation skit tomorrow (sept. 1). The skit will be at 8 PM in
Schwartz F.
The first year class elections will be held on Thursday Sept. 17th from 11:30-12:30 in
Schwartz F.
The party at Voo-Doo lounge on Saturday, Aug 29th was a success.
MD/PhD
There will be a party in the honor of Steven Elvin Worsberg to welcome the new MDPHD's.
There are 8 new MD/PHD's, 4 males and 4 females. The party will be at 5 and dime on
Wed September 16th.
BOARD'S UPDATE: Eric spoke with Mike Bloom and was able to obtain this information. This still doesn't answer the question of the ranges in dates of when the boards will be administered.
The issue of the med school, dental school, law school and undergraduate school all having access to our library while we are denied access to the law library was discussed. We used to have access to the law library until the skull incident. Carol said that because the law school uses the same ID's as the undergraduate school there is no way for library personel to distinguish law students from undergrads.
The dean's are presently discussing having open access between our library facilities and those of Mt. Sinai.
The reserve fines were also discussed - when you take out a reserve book, if you are late returning it you can be charged a $50 fine. Also, if you take out a regular library book, if you receive notices but fail to respond you can be charged a $105 replacement fee.
If anyone has any complaints about library staff they can contact Carol Wu in G 98A or at extension x8932, or email at Wu@library.med.nyu.edu. Carol mentioned that the suggestion box is also available as a means of recommending things to the library as it is checked daily.
The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 19th at 5 PM.
CURRICULUM COMMITTEE: For those who were unaware Dr. Abramson now has the title of Vice Dean of Education.
The proposed structure of the Curriculum Committees is as follows:
THE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE: meets once a week and contains three students. The three students are the Senior Advisor, the Student Council President, and a 3rd year at large to be selected at the end of each year from one of the three 2nd years on the Basic Science Sub-Committee.
There was then a vote that all at large positions will be chosen in accordance with Student Council Policy. This was also unanimously approved (12-0-0).
The final step will be to write a list of who all of the students are who actually sit on these committees for our records and to see if Dean Abramson approves our decisions.
