Class of 2000
Question to the 4th years: Did they get copycards for the library when they became 3rd
years? The answer was yes - every class gets a copycard with 250 copies on it at the
beginning of each year. Nicole is going to speak to the library about securing copy
cards for the classes of '99, '00 and '01.
The scrubs still have not come in, Jack is going to call to find out what happened to the
order.
The shuttle to North Shore goes up to Cornell first and then over to North Shore adding
about a half an hour to the trip. We are looking into getting Cornell students to come
down here to save time on the trip.
Deb met with Dr. Abramson and they discussed ways to get Dean Glickman involved with the
students. Eric will bring in a list that he and Dean Lesser had prepared at the last
meeting for the council to review.
The summer surgery rotation is meeting some resistance from the surgery department as to
whether they will have another summer session next year. We should have a better idea as
to the need for it when we look at the 2nd years numbers for the lottery.
Class of 2001
About 103 incoming student have responded to the Orientation letters so planning is well
on it's way.
Inquiry as to how we are going to handle the Boards on computers if they are actually
going to be administered from March - July. This is something we need to look into.
MD/PhD
LETTER TO DEAN COHEN: We received a response to letter that was written to Dean Cohen . He responded with this letter.
STUDENT COUNCIL BULLETIN BOARD: Deb, Ethan, Dave, and Jess are going to be in charge of redoing the Student Council bulletin board before the incoming class arrives (Aug. 22nd).
COLLECTING EQUIPMENT FROM GROUPS: It has been decided that we are going to inform various groups when we return their budget that there will be certain items that we will require for them to store with the Student Council over the summer so we don't end up buying the same merchandise each year.
CALENDAR FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR: The Student Council President will be in charge of creating a calendar for the entire school for the fall and the 1st Year Class President will be in charge of creating one in the spring. Eric will need to speak to Dr. ALL in order to figure out about the advisory colleges schedule for the upcoming year.
STUDENT COUNCIL POSITIONS:
There was a vote to reorganize some of the responsibilities of some of the Student Council
representatives. The proposal called for the Student Council President to continue to be
responsible for setting up the Student Council meetings. This includes getting the room
ordering food, and setting the agenda. The 1st Year Vice President will be required to
oversee the publication of Mental Status (along with the Editor in Chief who is either a
first or a second year and the Student Council President). The 1st Year Vice President
will also be charged with taking minutes and posting minutes to the Student Council
webpage as well as organizing the Student Council office. The First Year Representatives
will now be responsible for the Spring Clothing Sale, and the First year Class President
will be in charge of taking over the calendar on the web page from the Student Council
President upon being elected. This vote was to change the by-laws so we needed a 2/3
vote, and the vote was unanimous.
There was also a vote to change the position of University Representative as of the Spring
of 1999. As it stands now, one of the 2nd year representatives is also University
Representative to the downtown NYU campus. This vote was to include the position, which
will now be called Student Senator, in the schoolwide elections for the Student Council
President, Past President, and Senior Advisor. This will be an extra Council member who
can come from any of the three years (entering 2nd, 3rd and 4th years) and who will
be allowed to vote on Council issues. This vote was also unanimous.
