Mental Status: In process

Merger Update: Law suit filed by faculty which will allow negotiations to continue, but not allow signing until Jan.20th. On the 20th, there will be a hearing which the faculty will use to make an injunction to prevent signing of any agreements.

NEW BUSINESS:

NTSA: (Non Traditional Students Association) Diana Achettino, the founder and president of the group spoke to the council about the aims of the organization. She went over her own personal background in running support goups, etc., emphasizing her negative opinion of cliches and that the NTSA's purpose is for the inclusion not exclusion of students. It aims at giving support to those that would otherwise be somewhat lost. It would involve academic and social/emotional support and activities for married students, older students, non-science major, etc. She mentioned that NYU has an average age of 23 for incoming students (one of the lowest in the nation). Other such organizations exist in other schools such as Columbia. Some council members mentioned that there should be no divisiveness in such an organization since none seems to exist in other clubs in our school. Also the fear that in 3-4th years that this organization may foster people to "get out of the loop" was refuted since this organization will have the opposite purpose of informing and supporting Non-Traditional students. One final fear raised by council members was the "victim status" that may be afforded by such a blind label as "non traditional". The organization was given club status by a 9-3-2 vote.
